The Mount Langi property was recognized as ideal for the production of full bodied wines over a century ago. Pinot Gris vines were first planted at Mount Langi in the early 1990s. With altitudes and climes not dissimilar to the grape's original home in Alsace along the Valley Rhine, Grampians grown Pinot Gris is brimming with the baked pear and cool ripened lychee characters, kernel aromaticness and textural richness which make white Pinot wines so charming and persuasive. A match to bitey cheese and the freshest seafood, Mount Langi drinks magnificently alongside pork with apple dressing.

From a superior site, identified for its magnificent Pinot Gris mesoclimes, a propitious place of optimal sunlight exposure, refreshed by cooling summer sea breezes. Pinot Gris grown here develop intense varietal flavours of great vigor and vitality on the palate. Grapes are lightly pressed at vinified at lower temperatures to capture and preserve the urgency of fruit, followed by a term on sedimentery lees for exquisite textural richness and complexity. Perfumed pear, fruits of the orchard and tropical characters, a finely structured style and a long, clean, off dry finish.

Brian Bicknell had been making wine around the world for many years. He returned to Marlborough on a mission to isolate vineyards of unique and individual expression, to construct a range of wines which can articulate the wealth of terroir and microclime clime to be found across greater Marlborough. The rose tinged Pinot Gris grape holds a fair amount of tannin, Mahi endeavour to minimize skin contact for a gentler palate. Being a fruit of low acidity, Mahi ferment the juices right through to dryness in a measure of oak, building structure while preserving eloquence.

The name Longview aptly descibes the vineyard with its far reaching views to the Coorong and Lake Alexandrina, the panoramic vistas over the property itself and surrounding countryside. Treated to a regimen of lees stirring battonage over the course of eight months maturation, Lis Neris is characterised by an astonishing balance between complexity of fruit and mouth filling savouryness.

Vitally fruit driven and refreshingly unoaked, Lindemans reserve the pick of their Pinot Grigio for Bin 85, a wonderfully textural drop with well defined varietal charm. Sourced from low yielding sites which are managed to yield an exceptional quality of Pinot Gris. Kumeu River was a pioneer of the New Zealand winemaking industry, established in 1944 when the Brajkovich family settled at Kumeu just outside of Auckland. The estate makes some of New Zealand's finest Chardonnay and is equally adept at some of the more esoteric varietals. All their offerings have shown well at competitions and they excel at Pinot Gris. The estate's Auckland vineyards enjoy beautiful ripening conditions, encouraging the fruit to achieve a level of rich concentration and luscious textures, a very layered and complex Pinot Gris wine.

An attractively perfumed alternative, Pinot Gris is all about texture and flavour. Characterised by nutty stonefruit characters, medium in body with super balance between fruit sweetness and acidity. Josmeyer was founded in 1854 by Aloyse Meyer, restaurateur and gourmet, amid the communes of Wintzenheim, Turckheim and Wettolsheim. Fromenteau is an old moniker for Pinot Gris, the ancient term conjures impressions of cereal fields and the harvest time. Fashioned to a more natural process of vinification, Pinot Gris expresses a pastoral, earthy personality. Made from organically and biodynamically grown grapes, off vines averaging thirty five years of age, Josmeyer is crafted with the sensibility of an artist, it shares with you its poetry, intimacy and finesse.

Picked off a tally of vineyard blocks on the Jones Road property further down Mornington Peninsula, the fruit is treated to extended hang time for a fuller, luscious Pinot Gris. Vinified through the action of wild indigenous yeasts, without any crushing or destemming, a portion in seasoned French oak barriques. Artfully crafted and tastefully assembled, a savoury sauvage style, the palate reveals a delicious core of flower blossom and apple nut flavours, unravelling more spice complexity as it finishes, engaging, amenable and urbane.

Pinot Gris really loves Marlborough. The challenge is to achieve complete fruit ripeness without the sugar levels going through the roof, which would result in high alcohol and residual sugar, not the style Isabel aims for. In early summer, serious bunch thinning is required, even after laying down lower bud numbers at pruning time. Too much sun on the ripening bunches can thicken and over colour the skins. The Isabel team take great efforts to ensure that each vine is treated to the right amount of sunshine, for perfect harvests of superbly ripened Pinot Gris.

A new wave and the next big thing? Been around forever actually. Great Pinot Gris can only come from fine vineyards. There are two distinctive styles in Australia, zippy with lemon freshness and crisp acidity or the richer, textural, full bodied type. Both share an attractive mineral element that adds complexity. The Hoddles Creek property is a highly challenging site to manage, the steep slopes and temperate climes however, yield the finest Yarra Valley Pinot Gris. Nothing is done by half measure, the viticultural team afford great reverence for their vines and treat their fruit with respect. Grapes are selectively sorted and treated to a minimalist, old world vinification, foot stomped and chilled for a term of skin contact, pressed into pre loved oak barriques for timely completion of ferments. Pinot Gris for its own sake, a measure of stalkiness and fine grape tannins in exquisite balance.

A revitalizing cépage of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, from fine vineyards in Eden Valley and the distinguished Henschke Lenswood property at Adelaide Hills. A pure varietal wine from grapes grown by David and Annette Innes at Littlehampton. Viticulture was first established in the Adelaide Hills in 1839 by John Barton Hack at a place near Mount Barker, just five kilometres from Littlehampton. It has been recently rediscovered as a winegrowing area. Littlehampton is an ideal site to practice organic viticulture, and responds well to biodynamics for keeping the vines healthy. When George Poppa Gunn first settled in 1920, Hawkes Bay was a farming region where great skill and experience were required to compensate for the poor soils and rather dry conditions. After sixty years of struggling to eke out an existence, providence spoke to the Gunn family with the epiphany that their farm on the banks of Ngaruroro River at Hawke's Bay was Sol superbe for the production of the most splendid, award winning wines.
